The FBI has issued a warning about the rapid rise of AI-powered scams, revealing that more than 22,000 complaints linked to artificial intelligence fraud resulted in approximately $890 million in losses in 2025. In a newly dedicated section of its Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) report, the agency highlights how scammers are using AI-generated images, impersonation tactics, and social media data to deceive victims. The report also notes that teenagers are increasingly being targeted through AI-enhanced fake images and extortion schemes, underscoring the expanding reach of AI-enabled cybercrime.
