Amazon buys the satellite company that powers Apple's SOS system to take on Elon Musk's Starlink. As Apple bought 20% of Globalstar for $1.5 billion in 2024, Amazon has agreed to power satellite services for Apple devices and work on Apple's future satellite services to expand Amazon Leo's satellite network. This service will not start until 2028, since the deal is expected to close in 2027, only if Amazon is able to send 1,600 satellites in orbit before July 2026, even though they only expect to have 700.
