AI companies Anthropic and Open AI are asking for third party regulators to independently report safety incidents, ensure AI models behave well, and to share their findings with the general public. This process has support from executives in the industry but is yet to be ironed out. It still has not been established if these watchdogs will be truly impartial. This proposal is more expansive than most laws regulating AI, and this is voluntary self regulation, as opposed to external regulation from the government.
