The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has recently begun warning the public about scammers posing as agents. People are being tricked into sending money through threats of arrest by scammers using spoofed FBI phone numbers. The ATF says that these calls are not legitimate and encourages the public to avoid sharing private information with anyone making unsolicited calls.
