Vulnerability in DNA Test Software, Allowing Attackers to Alter Data

Thermo Fisher Scientific has found a security flaw, CVE-2026-17583, in its Applied Biosystems Human Identification software that could let attackers alter forensic DNA analysis files. This issue affects .fsa and .hid files, which are important for criminal investigations and paternity testings. While patched versions with digital signatures are now available for most systems, older equipment can still be comprised and must be isolated. Labs are urged to update to the patched versions immediately and apply strict security controls.
