Rémi Cadène, former Tesla scientist and founder of UMA, known as Universal Mechanical Assistant, unveiled the Northstar robot, targeting the European market first. With his team of former leaders from Google DeepMinds, Nvidia, and more, their mission is to build lightweight humanoid robots to perform real-world tasks. This robot has worked in manufacturing plants, and soon in hospitals and homes, as it learns to adapt to different environments without manual reprogramming for new tasks. As the European market is facing labor shortages, these robots, locally made in Europe, are in demand in the hospital and logistic sectors the most. Compared to the Tesla Optimus robots, this robot is a faster and advanced alternative to Optimus, especially since it learned with physical reality, not simulations.
