By establishing a backdoor, hackers can use the malware to spy on operations, and map out databases. Hackers can use this to gain control of websites or applications to run commands and erase or permanently encrypt user files. This leads to data loss and irreversible compromise, meaning the target's data cannot be recovered even if a ransom is paid. Some solutions include implementing endpoint protection, enforcing least privilege access, maintaining secure backups, and deploying network firewalls.
