According to Hacker News the group UNC6040's main goal was "large-scale data theft". This group successfully makes their operators try to sound like IT support workers, or convince the victims to download data loaders which in turn tricks employees into giving the hackers information they need for data theft. They have successfully got information from Okta, Workplace, Microsoft 365 and more.
