MIT Engineers' New Robot Mimics the Size and Agility of an Insect

MIT researchers are developing a small flying robot that has the agility of an insect. With a speed 450% greater and an acceleration 250% greater than previously developed robots, this robot is able to complete 10 consecutive somersaults in 11 seconds, demonstrating its advanced flight control. Using both a model-predictive controller to mathematically predict the behaviors of the robot, as well as artificial intelligence training, the engineering team is able to enhance the precision and complexity of the robot's maneuvers. This robot will be able to aid in the search for survivors amidst rubble or fit through tight spaces that previously developed larger robots are unable to reach.
