A hacker, with the intention to "expose" NYU's supposedly illegal admissions policies, hacked into the NYU website, exposing the personal information of over 3 million applicants, including location and financial information. The hacker has also claimed responsibility for a similar attack on the University of Minnesota a few years ago, and claims the NYU attack was performed through a simple vulnerability in the site's CMS. NYU has bolstered its security systems, especially since the publication of FERPA-protected data may have adverse legal consequences.
