Snail-inspired Robots Aiding Bowel Cancer Treatment

Drug delivery methods to combat cancer often lack the precision to perfectly target tumor sites, and as a result may inadvertently harm the rest of the patient's body. Researchers from The University of Manchester are in the process of developing soft robots designed for highly region-specific drug deliveries within the gastrointestinal tract, inspired by the highly adaptable and controlled movements of snails and slugs. This project will be the first to generate in-depth analyses and datasets on snail movement, something that has intrigued biologists and roboticists alike.
