Trump Administration Cuts 'Safety' From AI Safety Institute

The Trump administration has rebranded the U.S. AI Safety Institute, originally established by President Biden in 2023, into the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI). This shift moves away from a focus on AI safety and toward fostering innovation, because some claim that regulations have hindered technological progress. While CAISI will still evaluate AI risks, it will also prioritize voluntary industry standards and guard against foreign regulations that could limit American AI development, reflecting the administration’s broader pro-innovation stance on AI governance.
