'Godfather of AI' shares Nobel Physics Prize
The Nobel Physics Prize winners for 2024 were surprisingly not physicists but two computer scientists, Geoffrey Hinton (known as the "Godfather of AI") and John Hopfield, for their work on machine learning. Their pioneering research on neural networks is the base for today's AI systems like ChatGPT. They used physics to create the networks for pattern recognition, which is an important part of AI today, and a part of the reason they won this prize.
